Cuddly and Warm. :) Oh, and Eggs!

Today was very cold, so Evelyn got to wear the cuddly snow suit that her grandmother gave her for Christmas!

She really loved it.  Apparently this child loves to be swaddled up in a cocoon--it completely calms her.

I know I'm biased, but isn't she adorable?

In other news, our chickens finally started laying a couple weeks ago!  One of them lays her eggs in-between the hay bale and the wall on our front porch.  Seems like a cozy spot...

The eggs are so pretty.  :)  We still need to figure out where the other two hens are laying--they refuse to use the nice nesting boxes we built for them.  Ah well!

My mom has ordered some Lavender Orpington eggs to hatch, and we are going to keep a couple hens from those.  Have you ever seen a Lavender Orpington chicken?  They are gorgeous!

(This photo is from chirpychicks.com, but it seems like that website no longer exists.)

Well, must be off!  Gotta get some cleaning done while Evvie is asleep...

Evvie is so,so cute. I'm sure she stayed nice and cozy in that sweet little snowsuit.

It's great that your chickens have started laying. As for getting them to use the nest boxes, have you tried leaving an egg in them? Often even a golf ball or something similar will let them know where to deposit there eggs. Good luck!

Now that you mention it, I remember reading somewhere that you could "train" your chickens that way! Thank you for reminding me--we actually have some life-size faux brown eggs that will work perfectly.
