A warm, sunny dress

Last weekend Georgians received about 3-4" of snow. This weekend it is a sunny 65F. Typical Georgia weather!

The warm weather was inspired me to work on spring dresses. Thus I sewed away into the wee hours of the morning finishing buttonholes on this little ditty:

My computer is having a rough day upload-wise, so I'll post more detailed pictures later.

Half of this dress is a copy of a vintage dress I owned. It was a cute dress, and it fit me like a dream, but had very unflattering pin tucks all along the top of the skirt. The tucks had much the same effect as rib knit--something that has never looked good on me. So I carefully de-constructed the dress and made a pattern out of the bodice. I used the pattern for this dress, and whipped up a slightly-gathered one-piece skirt to go with it.

The skirt is lined with white muslin with lace sewn along the hem. I used some old purple buttons that I bought at an estate sale awhile back as I thought they complimented the color scheme nicely.

I am quite pleased with the finished product, and plan to make another in the near future.

Have a happy day!
